Comparison of raw slurry separation techniques
On 19th October “Prosiectslyri Project” carried out a trial on a local intensive dairy farm. The purposes of this trial was to ascertain and compare the performance of two very differing slurry separation techniques which we had at our disposal. The first, a mechanical screw press separator and the other a dewatering decanter centrifuge (this was a mobile unit mounted on a trailer). The solids, which exit the separation stage, can be stored for later use, whilst we the liquid fraction will be treated in the de-watering process. It is important to separate as much of the solid as possible, and the two systems performed admirably and analysis of both the percentage solids contained within the liquid fraction, together with the percentage nutrient separation will inform the continuing treatment process.
